GIANNA

“And then, he picked me up and like slammed me into the wall… I’m telling you, it was so fucking hot I couldn’t bear it!”

“No fucking way! You’re so lucky! I mean, I like Harry; I really do. I just don’t think he hazes as much as me, you know? I want passion and raw intensity! That shit’s insane! Right, G? G? GIANNA?”

I snapped out of my daydream. “Huh? What?” I glanced into the mirror I was facing and saw the girls staring back at me.

Liv looked mildly curious, but Emily was tapping her foot with her arms crossed. She looked pissed. She must’ve been talking about her haze sex with whatever guy she was with this season.

Mark? No.

Neil? No.

Ralph! That’s who—Ralph!

“Gianna, were you even listening to me?” she spat.

“Yeah, babe, course I was! You and Ralph hazed so good this afternoon he slammed you into a wall, right?” I said, smiling widely at her.

She clicked her tongue in frustration. “It’s Ron.”

Shit!

“Ralph was soooooo last season!” She rolled her eyes, and we giggled.

I picked up my lipstick and started applying it. Deep chocolate, my favorite. “What about you, Liv? Any wall slamming going on?” I winked at her.

She grinned sheepishly and blushed. “Not exactly, no, but I’m hoping soon there will be,” she giggled, and Emily nudged her.

I smiled and continued to do my makeup. I’d never gotten to experience a haze.

My father, the alpha king, and my mother, a powerful sorceress, had been forced by the council of elders to suppress my wolf when I was just a child.

Apparently, someone with my capabilities should not be allowed to roam around unchecked. It was simply unheard of. I rolled my eyes at the thought.

My mom and I would talk about it each season. She knew hearing about my friends’ hazes often left me feeling more left out than usual.

My girlfriends were great, and I loved them, but I would always be royalty—the princess, the alpha king’s daughter.

The haze, also known as mating season, happened once or twice a year when everyone—and I mean everyone—fucked like crazy…

Mom had told me the binds on my wolf would begin to break once I found my mate.

She’d said my mate would calm my wolf soul, and once he accepted all of me and my power as his mate, it would finally be free again.

A part of me couldn’t wait; another part of me wondered if any man or wolf could handle my wild soul.

I’d actually only ever shifted into my wolf form once. I was about ten, maybe eleven. My parents had insisted that the council wait until I had experienced one shift before they suppressed me.

My brother Diego and my father coached me through it. It went on for hours, each bone of my body breaking and changing. My body was covered in sweat from the fever.

It did hurt, I’ll admit, but Diego promised that it would get better with each shift until it was as easy as breathing.

A lot of humans thought that werewolves turned into man-shaped beasts that ran on two legs, but we actually transformed into full wolves.

We looked just like ordinary wolves, except we were a bit bigger. If a human were to see us, they would just think they’d come across a large wild wolf.

Our hair spread across our body, becoming our fur. The color of our hair determined the color of our fur.

Most of the time, wolf eyes were a soft golden-yellow, but there were some exceptions to the rule. There were a few whose eyes stayed the same color as their human eyes. Like I said, a few exceptions.

I finished off my makeup, putting those thoughts out of my mind, and admired myself in the mirror. Damn, I looked good!

I wore biker boots with a leather skirt and a khaki-green blouse. Very chic, I thought, pulling my ice-white locks out of my hair tie and letting my hair fall down my back.

I heard the girls ooo behind me “G! You look bomb, girl!”

“Yeah, G! You look amazing!”

I turned around. “Thanks, girls! So do you! Wow!”

Emily was wearing a skintight red dress that looked amazing with her olive, tanned skin and dark hair, which she had in curls falling loosely around her shoulders.

Liv was wearing a blue denim skirt with a white off-the-shoulder shirt; her golden locks were tucked up in a stylish messy bun, which I could never achieve without looking homeless.

Damn, I had some good-looking girlfriends. I smiled and picked up my drink. Tonight was going to be a good night; I could sense it.

“Come on; let’s finish our drinks and get out of here before Diego spots us and rats me out to Dad,” I said, knocking back my vodka tonic.

The girls laughed, and Liv blushed. “Diego is so hot, though,” she said.

“Ew, gross, Liv!” I shoved her and rolled my eyes.

We clinked our glasses to a good night and downed our drinks.

I thought about Diego as we left my house for town. He was my biggest brother, next in line to be alpha king, and he took his future duties very seriously.

Heavy is the head that wears the crown and all that. I rolled my eyes at the thought. He was my protector, as he called it, always stepping in when I needed him…

But I never needed him. I was strong, stronger than him by miles, and he hated it.

My siblings and I we weren’t just wolves; we were witches—well half-and-half, really. We all had special abilities.

Diego had super strength and speed; his senses were heightened, which made him the perfect tracker. No matter where you were or how far, Diego would always find you.

He had the biggest wolf. At six feet, four inches tall, he towered over me at my mere five feet, three inches.

His jet-black hair meant his wolf’s fur was also jet black, and his piercing green eyes made every she-wolf weak at the knees in both human and wolf form, which he just loved.

I came next.

With my ice-white hair and glacier-blue eyes, I was the white wolf, the one mothers told stories about to their pups as they drifted off to sleep, stories about a white wolf that hadn’t been seen in over a decade, since I had been allowed only one run in my wolf form.

I’d heard some stories of the white wolf, a rare wolf, they would call it.

Some wolves would look at me with curiosity, wondering if maybe I was the wolf. No one actually knew if the wolf was indeed a werewolf or just a wild one, but no one dared ask.

My powers were a bit more complicated than the others. My mom said she always knew I would be gifted beyond measure.

And then there were the twins, Lucas and Levi, both standing tall like Diego at six feet, two inches tall. Like our mother, they had golden hair and green eyes.

They also had the three Ts—telekinesis, telepathy, and teleportation. They were strong apart but even stronger when they were together.

“We’re here!!”

Emily’s squeal pulled me out of my daydream as the cab pulled up outside the club.

“Oh no! Look at the queue! We’ll be waiting ages!” Liv moaned, her hands pulling her jacket around herself tightly as she got out.

“Girl, are you dumb?! We’re with royalty, bitch! We’re getting VIP treatment.” Emily rolled her eyes at Liv. I laughed and got out of the cab after them.

“Don’t worry, girls, I got this down,” I called over my shoulder, strolling to the bouncer at the door.

GIANNA

I strolled up to the bouncer, smiling confidently. “Hello, Remi!” I waited for the girls to catch up before nodding to the ropes. “Fancy helping a girl out and letting my girls and me in?”

I flashed my most dazzling smile at him. I didn’t need to see them to know my eyes sparkled at him.

He blushed. “Of course, Miss Gray.” He lifted the ropes to let my girls and me past him. They giggled and walked in ahead of me, mumbling their thank-yous as they passed.

I smiled again. “Remi, please. It’s Gianna. Send my love to Anabelle and your pups,” I said, walking in past him. Piece of cake for several reasons.

Number one was Remi was a fellow wolf, and therefore he knew exactly who I was. As Emily had stated, I was in fact royalty.

And number two was I was something of a self-professed wild child and may have been a regular here on occasion… Okay! A lot!

Walking through the archway and down the stairs, I had a quick look around. The place was packed with both wolves and humans.

Not all humans knew that wolves like us existed. The ones that did found the haze kinky and tended to stick around. Some wolves actually mated with humans, but that was another story.

I nodded happily to myself, checking out the lights that bounced off the walls and looking over at the bar packed to the brim with people looking for drinks. This was gonna be a good night!

We checked our coats and headed straight for the bar “Shots—come on!” Emily squealed, handing out pink shots.

“Emily, what is this?” Liv asked.

I rolled my eyes. “It’s alcohol, Liv. Come on, drink up!” I said, shooting my shot and ordering another round.

Typical Liv. Always so cautious. She wasn’t as wild as Emily and I. Hell, Emily wasn’t even as wild as I was.

I could outdrink any man—well, any human man.

I’d never tried it, but I was pretty sure if I took on a male wolf, considering our healing abilities, I would come very close to dying from alcohol poisoning.

If I miraculously managed to survive, then my father would kill me for doing it in the first place. So, in reality, totally not worth it! I was definitely a hit with the humans, though!

Four rounds of shots later, we ordered a cocktail each and found a table. “Ready, set, DOWN,” Emily roared, and we all downed our cocktails as fast as possible.

Shit! Brain freeze! After we squealed like idiots for about two minutes until our brains had decided to get a grip on reality, I checked out the floor and decided I wanted to dance.

“Come on, let’s dance!” I grabbed the girls’ hands and led them to the dance floor. Tonight I wanted to let loose and forget everything.

I may not have hazed like the other wolves, but I was still a woman. I still had needs.

I’d never actually had sex per se. I was saving that for my mate, but I’d fooled around with a few guys when I was younger.

By fooled around, I mean a couple of kisses, a boob squeeze, and a cheeky dry hump or two. Well, until I was about fourteen—no, actually, fifteen.

That was before Diego started beating the crap out of every guy who even looked in my direction before I turned sixteen, which was when wolves experienced their first haze.

Obviously, no one knew then that I couldn’t actually feel a haze, but that still didn’t stop him. “You’re bringing too much attention, G,” he’d say, concerned.

“Another headline about your partying. Father will kill you when he sees this. I’m just looking out for you, G; can’t you see?”

I always knew he meant well, but we both knew the truth. I was always Dad’s favorite. I was a daddy’s girl and wasn’t even gonna deny it.

I was the only girl, and Dad loved it. “My pride and joy, my wild child, my little princess” was how he always introduced me, and my siblings hated it.

I danced with my girls, moving my hips to the beat of the music and circling my arms above my head. I wanted to just get lost in the moment.

“G! Mind if we dance over there? No wolf would dare go near you after, you know…Diego.” I opened my eyes and saw Emily flinch at the question, waiting for my response.

I sighed. Of course she was right. There was an empty circle around me; no one would dare touch me.

My brother saw to that, which meant when they were with me, no one would dare touch them simply because of association.

He didn’t care if you so much as dared to breathe the same air as me; you got a beating, and he was savage about it too.

“Yeah, babe, course.” Emily looked relieved. She hugged me and scooted over to Liv and two wolves; the haze season had begun, so the girls were on the hunt for their mates.

They’d already had their casual fucks for the season, but every wolf wanted to find their mate, the one they’d spend the rest of their lives with, the one they were solely connected to in body, mind, and spirit.

I closed my eyes again and tried to lose myself in the music, but it was hopeless. My mind was racing. How could I ever find my mate if no one would even be near me?

I was about to go get a drink when I felt hands snake around my waist. I tensed up. I didn’t know why; reflex, I guessed.

I felt hot breath against my ear. “Mind if I have this dance?” he purred.

Shit, this guy is brave. Maybe he doesn’t know who I am. Maybe he’s a blow-in and better yet, doesn’t know who Diego is.

I smiled and nodded, still not turning around. I ground my hips in a circular motion against his. I felt his grip tighten around me and heard his breath hitch as he pulled me closer.

A quick, sly sniff told me he was a wolf.

Hmm, this could be interesting.

Wolves never touched me because of—well, you already know… Diego.

I wrapped my arms around his neck behind me and pulled his lips to mine. He needed no further instruction; he put his mouth on my neck, kissing and exploring it.

It felt nice; we ground to the music, his hands clutching my hips to him tightly. We did this for three songs, and I felt his bulge against me and smiled to myself.

I’d felt it starting halfway through song one and all of song two, but now there was no denying it was there.

I ground into him harder, swirling my hips more, throwing in a body roll just to keep it interesting. It was pretty fun; I was really getting into it when something hit me that I’d never felt before.

I shot up straight and froze in the middle of the dance floor, eyes wide as a molten-hot wave descended my whole body.

My hairs stood up, giving me goosebumps as the heat traveled down, and my nipples stood at attention as it moved slowly down to… I gulped and closed my eyes… My sex.

My panties were already wet. Is this it? My first haze? Is this what the haze feels like?

I racked my brains, trying to remember what the girls had said about when they got it. They’d always said the same thing—the heat, the goosebumps, the need for cool air and freedom.

I needed to get out of there. I bolted.

I ran out of the club and down the street. I couldn’t take this heat. I needed to go somewhere, anywhere. I needed a release.

Shit.

Shit.

Fuck.

Shit.

Oh man.

Shiiit.

I came to a stop at the woods by my house. Shit, I didn’t even think I’d run that far.

Would I make it to my bedroom? What if someone saw me? Dad would have a bitch fit, probably murder someone. I shook my head. I couldn’t think about that now. I needed to strip.

I started unbuttoning my shirt, my hands shaking. My sex was pulsing. I felt like I was suffocating in my clothes.

Oh dear God, is this it? I had just gotten the final button of my shirt open when I heard a soft whisper behind me.

“Gianna.”

I spun around, eyes wide, and there he was—the guy from the club. He must be…my mate…
