Stephen and I stood there, wrapped up in each other, still feeling the heat from our kiss. Our eyes met and we shared a smile. “That was... unforgettable.”
“Breathtaking. Just like you,” he murmured, leaning in to brush his lips against mine again. “As much as I’d love to keep you all to myself, I don’t think your roommate and coworker would appreciate it. Ready to head back out?”
I was taken aback. Stephen was a true gentleman, always putting my needs first. It was a refreshing change from the guys who were always trying to get into my pants. “I could definitely use another drink after that kiss... with plenty of ice to cool off.”
Stephen chuckled, and his smile lit up his face. “Then let’s get you that drink, doll.”
“But before we do, can I ask you something?” I nodded. “Are you free tomorrow night? I don’t want to wait another week to see you again. Can I take you out to dinner?”
“I would like that very much, Stephen. Yes, you can.”
“I’m so glad you said that.” He pulled me closer, his fingers bunching up my dress as he held me tight. Our lips met again, the kiss fiery and passionate, but all too brief. “Can I have your phone number? I’ll text you tomorrow to confirm a time and place to pick you up.”
“Sure, want to swap phones and we can exchange numbers?”
We unlocked our phones and handed them over. After entering our numbers, we swapped back. I watched as Stephen typed something into his phone, a smile on his face.
When he saw my confused look, he turned his phone around to show me. He’d saved my number under the name ‘My Doll’.
I blushed, and Stephen reached out to brush his fingers against my cheek.
“That look, so sexy and innocent, it gets me every time,” he said, his eyes on my lips again. “Shall we go before the gentleman in me disappears? I’m seriously considering throwing you over my shoulder and taking you home with me.”
Feeling bold, I grabbed my purse and walked past him, running my nails down his chest. I looked up into his green eyes. “What makes you think I wouldn’t let you?”
I winked at him and kept walking. I heard him groan and then he was behind me, his hands on my ass. His lips found my neck and his teeth grazed the sensitive skin below my ear. “Don’t tempt me, doll. I’m finding it hard to control myself.”
I could hear the desperation in his voice. I reached behind me and let my hand brush against the front of his pants. He was definitely hard. I turned my head to look at him, a mischievous glint in my eyes. “It certainly feels like it.”
I opened the door and stepped out into the hallway, leaning against the wall as I waited for Stephen. He shook his head at me, a smirk on his face, before locking his office and joining me. He extended his hand. “Shall we?”
I took his hand and let him lead me back to the booth where Luke, Matt, Mike, Chad, David, and Clint were waiting. Two women had joined them, one of whom was snuggled up to Clint. We slid into the booth and Stephen ordered us drinks. His hand found its way back to my thigh, a touch I didn’t mind at all.
Clint introduced the two women. “Trinity, this is my girlfriend Mia, and her friend Lily.” Mia reached out to shake my hand, but Lily just gave me a tight smile.
Mia and I chatted for hours. She was the same age as me and worked as a personal trainer. She and Clint had been together for five years, since college, and now lived together. We had a lot in common, and when Mia suggested we exchange numbers and meet for coffee next week, I was all for it.
I loved Luke like a brother, but I was ready for some girl time. The only odd thing was that Lily hadn’t tried to join our conversation. Mia must have noticed my confusion because she leaned over and whispered, “Don’t mind Lily. She’s always had a thing for Stephen, but he’s made it clear there’s nothing between them. She’s just not used to seeing him with other women. She’ll be fine once she gets used to it. Trust me.”
“Really? I mean, no offense to Clint, but I’d think a guy like Stephen wouldn’t be lacking in the ladies’ department.”
Mia laughed. “No offense taken, babe. And he isn’t. He just doesn’t fall for the usual types. He’s got more class than that. Plus, his work keeps him pretty busy. I think it’d take someone special to keep him interested. Someone like you.”
She winked at me and nudged me, making me smile. “I won’t lie, I’ve enjoyed the attention he’s given me. And I’m looking forward to seeing him again tomorrow night. To get to know him better.”
“No way! He asked you out?” She half-whispered, half-shouted at me, careful not to be overheard. I nodded, puzzled. “Wow! This is big. I’m so excited.
“I might be getting ahead of myself, but I hope it works out. You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for another woman to join our group. I love the guys, but sometimes you just need a girl who gets it, you know?”
“I get it. Although, I won’t lie, some days Luke is a bit more feminine than I am.” We both laughed and finished our drinks.
As I took the last sip, I noticed it was two in the morning. Luke looked ready to pass out. As much as I was enjoying the night, especially the part where Stephen’s hands hadn’t left me since we returned from his office, I knew it was time to head home.
“Stephen, thank you for a wonderful night. But I think sleeping beauty over there,” I pointed to Luke, “is ready to go home before he starts drooling on your furniture.” Stephen glanced at Luke, smiled, then turned back to me.
“Can I call you a taxi or an Uber? I’m disappointed to see you go, but the sooner tonight ends, the sooner our dinner date tomorrow night begins. Can I walk you out and make sure you get home safely?”
“I’d like that.” I turned to Luke and Matt. “You guys ready to head home?”
Luke said he was ready and asked if Matt was coming back to our place for the night. Once we all agreed, we made our way out of the booth.
We said our goodbyes and shook hands. Mia hugged me and said she’d call me next week to catch up. I was genuinely looking forward to it.
With Matt’s help, Luke stumbled outside. I followed closely, with Stephen’s arm securely around my waist.
Outside, Stephen flagged down a taxi for us while Matt tried to get Luke into the car.
I saw Stephen hand the driver a hundred-dollar bill and ask him to make sure we all got home safely.
Stephen turned back to me, pulling me closer. “I can’t wait to see you tomorrow.”
I reached up to his face, cupping his cheek and running my fingers over his stubble. I pulled his face down towards mine.
Stephen happily obliged and our lips met, sparking just like the first time. His hands pulled me tighter to him, his hips pushing into me.
All too soon, the kiss ended and we said our good-nights. As I got in the taxi, I turned to Stephen. “Thank you for a lovely night. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Text me when you get home, so I know you’re safe,” he asked, his hands in his pockets. I agreed, said goodnight, and shut the door. The taxi drove off.
Once Matt and I got Luke to bed, I said goodnight to Matt. I grabbed a bottle of water from the kitchen, then shut my bedroom door and flopped onto my bed.
After a few minutes, I remembered my promise to text Stephen. I quickly sent him a message letting him know I was home and getting ready for bed.
I added that I hoped he enjoyed the rest of his night, then locked my phone and got up. I went into my bathroom to get ready for bed and put my phone on the vanity. As I was brushing my teeth, my phone vibrated. I looked down to see a reply from Stephen.
“I’m glad you’re home safe. I’m still at the bar, in my office, finishing up a few things before calling it a night. But all I can think about is how much I wish I was there with you. Can’t wait to see you again, doll.”
Reading Stephen’s message, I smiled to myself. I wasn’t sure if it was the alcohol or the way he made me feel, but I snapped a picture and sent it to him with a reply.
“Hope this helps you get through the rest of the night. Good night, Stephen.” I left the bathroom, plugged my phone into the charger, and settled into bed. Just as I was about to turn off my lamp, I heard a message come through.
“Mmm. Lord give me strength. The things I want to do to you. Get some rest, doll. You’re going to need it when I see you.”
