The Conclusion

Alexina

I heard the sound of paws coming towards me but I had no intention of moving. One quick sniff of the ground told me that I was in another packs territory; I could smell them all around me.

The thumping of paws got closer as low growls began to erupt from the approaching wolves.

I didn’t move, I just lay there with my eyes closed; waiting for them to kill me.

I had felt the Alpha order break away from me hours ago while I was running and that could only mean one thing; my father had died. I deserved to die too for leaving him and the rest of my pack.

I hoped that when these wolves killed me that they wouldn’t take it easy; I wanted them to tear me to shreds for the shame I bestowed upon my family.

I could hear that I was surrounded; maybe twelve to fifteen wolves in total.

I waited patiently for them to deliver my death as two wolves growled violently back and forth; it seemed like they were having some type of argument.

Did they really have to argue right now while I was waiting for my death? Couldn’t they just kill me then continue whatever it is they want to disagree on?

I found it really hard to be patient waiting for my own death.

I was intent on letting them deliver any pain and punishment they wanted to me; I wasn’t going to fight them back.

I deserved the brutal death that I had coming my way; plus there were possibly fifteen of them, it would have been pointless to fight back.

Another loud growl erupted and my world turned into slow motion. It seemed I was getting my wish; I was going to have to live through every ounce of pain that was coming my way.

I stayed still as I listened to every little detail around me.

I heard everything, the sharp claws dig into the ground; the tiny granules of dirt made a squeaking sound as they rubbed against the nails.

The little particles of dust failing to ground that were kicked up from his paws sounded like sprinkles landing on a tin roof.

Each movement of the wolves’ body as the wind raked through his hair as he charged towards me; swoosh, swoosh, swoosh.

Then his teeth sunk hard into my shoulder and my wolf let out a painful howl. Without warning my wolf took over and switched into survival mode.

I tried to fight her and tell her to stay down and take what she had coming but she refused to listen; instead she just blocked me out completely.

She pushed herself to her feet; shaking off the wolf that had attacked her in the process.

The wolf got back to his feet looking back at us stunned that we got up to fight. I watched as the side of his mouth tugged up; it appeared he was smiling.

He was a fairly large dark brown and black wolf with blue eyes that almost looked gray. He didn’t waste any time going in for his next attack as he jumped forward and tried to grab my neck.

I sidestepped his advance and caught him by the back leg, causing him to cry out in pain.

I heard one of the wolves that were circling us let out a growl, only to be countered by a growl from another wolf. I was starting to wonder why they didn’t all just attack me.

I was trespassing on their lands, my ties to my father’s pack were broken so I would have the scent of a rogue; what was stopping them from ripping me apart?

The brown and black wolf turned around and swiped his paw at my face; I tried to pull away but he managed to catch me with his claws as blood started to soak my white fur on my face.

I whipped around and reared up planning to grab onto his back but he reared up at the same time causing me to only be able to grab his arm.

I got his arm in a tight grip and bit down until I heard the bone crack; for good measure I twisted it a little before I let it go and he fell to the ground in pain growling at me.

He was trying to get back up on three feet when I heard another wolf coming from behind.

I wasn’t fast enough to move and his body slammed into mine causing us to barrel roll together until my back hit a tree.

I yelped out in pain as I pushed the other wolf off of me; he was quickly back on his feet and went to attack me again.

I pushed back the pain of what I was sure was a few broken ribs and squirmed out from in front of the tree just before he reached me.

Before he had time to change his advance I grabbed him by the neck and flung his body as hard as I could toward the forest.

His body collided hard with a tree breaking it in half and causing it to fall to the ground.

I took a second to take in the wolf I just threw and realized it looked just like wolf whose arm I just broke.

I went to turn around again when I felt teeth sink into my back leg as it was jerked from under me pulling me to the ground.

I cried out in pain as the wolf bit down making sure to break my leg. I struggled to get out of his grip clawing at his back leaving deep gashes until he let me go.

He came back and charged me again; I lost my balance from the broken leg and fell to the ground. He sank his teeth around my arm breaking the bone instantly then my body went flying through the air.

I saw a quick glimpse of the tree I was about to hit, then everything went black.

Beep… Beep… Beep…

The sound of a something beeping by my ear woke me up. I opened my eyes only to immediately close them again due to the blinding light.

I tried again but this time taking it slow; allowing my eyes time to adjust to their surroundings. The first thing I saw was the florescent light right above me, hanging from a bright white ceiling.

I turned my head to look around and the movement made me dizzy. When the room stopped spinning around me again I noticed I was in a small room that was painted all white.

The beeping sound was a heart monitor that was somehow hooked to my body. I tried to move my hands but came to realize I must be medicated because I wasn’t able to move anything but my head.

I was in some type of hospital room; most likely an infirmary because I could smell other wolves scents in the room.

I was all alone in the room at the time but it hadn’t been long since someone had been in to check on me because I could still smell a strong female scent in the room.

I heard the sound of footsteps coming from what I assumed was a hallway behind the door and I quickly made myself look like I was still sleeping.

“Why did you even bring her here? If she’s a rogue then you should have killed her on the spot!” I heard a deep voice yell from outside the door.

I shivered as I could feel the power in his voice; it was definably an Alpha.

“Klaus there’s something different about her. She had only been a rogue for a few hours I could still sense her old pack on her.

“She was submitting when we found her, she didn’t mean us any harm.” I heard another guy say back in a pleading tone.

“If she meant us no harm then why were two of my men brought back injured?” Klaus growled back, it made me wish I could sink further into the bed and hide.

“That was Tristan’s fault. He attacked her, she was just defending herself.

“I’m telling you Klaus there is something different about her, you should have seen the way she fought.” The other man replied not seeming shaken from the Alphas foul mood.

The door flew open and I listened as two sets of heavy footsteps approached my bed.

I worked to keep my heart rate steady and breathing even; I wasn’t ready to face this Alpha, I needed him to think I was still knocked out.

I felt a warm touch skim down the side of my face; I fought against myself to lean into it.

“Hmm… You’re right Dane there is something special about her.” Klaus said; his tone was even now compared to the anger he had before he stepped in the room.

“She can stay here for two months to recover and figure out where she will go. I want you to put her in cabin five so that we can keep an eye on her from the pack house.” He said pausing for a moment.

“Send Chloe in to look after her.” He finished as I heard his footsteps move towards the door.

“Chloe?” Dane asked sounding surprised.

“Yes, Chloe.” Klaus replied as he chuckled and walked out the door.

I heard Dane follow behind him and the door closed leaving me once again alone in the room. I let out a sigh of relief once their footsteps disappeared down the hallway. Why did they let me live?

Why were they letting me stay here? This just wasn’t usual behavior for a pack. They knew nothing about me; I could be a danger to their whole pack.

I still hadn’t come to terms with the fact that I was even still alive; I shouldn’t be alive.

I didn’t want to live knowing that my whole family, my whole pack, everyone I had ever known was probably dead. What did I even have left to live for?

I have nowhere to go, I have no money, I have nothing. Tears started to fall down my face as the pain of losing my family started taking over my body once again.

I’m sure that I had been crying for a while before I fell back asleep.

Beep… Beep… Beep…

The sound was driving me crazy as I tried to clear my head from my nap. I opened my eyes slowly this time; learning my lesson from last time.

“Morning sleepy head.” A girl’s voice came from my left.

I jerked my head to the side to see who it was; an instant wave of dizziness took over me and I rested my head back on the pillow to recover.

Once I felt normal again I turned my head to take in the woman sitting in a chair a few feet from my bed.

She had long dark brown hair like mine, but instead of the wave my hair had hers was pin straight.

She had beautiful brown eyes to match her hair and appeared to be maybe 5’6 if she was standing; not much taller than me.

She was absolutely gorgeous, as expected with any werewolf; I wondered if this was the Chloe that the Alpha and the other guy were talking about.

“Hi” I said; though the words came out raspy through my dry throat.

“I’m Chloe, I was sent to look after you.” She said using her hands as quotation marks when she said ‘look after’, as she held up a glass of water with a straw.

She held the straw to my lips because I still wasn’t able to move my limbs.

I drank the whole glass before she pulled it away; the cool liquid slid easily down my throat, soothing my dry mouth and throat.

“Thanks.” I said when I was done drinking.

“You’re welcome. So what’s your name?” She asked.

“Zena.” I replied. No one ever called me by my full first name, except my parents, so I figured my nickname would suffice for now.

“So are you just stupid or do you have a death wish?” Chloe asked while she dug around in her purse looking for something.

“What?” I asked confused.

“You ran into another wolf’s territory without permission. That’s usually a sure death sentence.

“You’re lucky that it was Dane that found you and not my brother, he probably wouldn’t have even thought twice before ripping your throat out.” She applied some lip gloss that she pulled out of her purse when she finished her sentence.

“I wasn’t thinking.” I said looking back at the ceiling.

I wasn’t ready to explain the reason I ended up on their land yet; I hoped she wouldn’t pry more about it, even though she did have every right to know.

“You think.” She said not hiding how obviously stupid she thought I was to do what I did.

“Anyways it’s lunch time.” She said opening the container that was sitting on a table next to her.

The smell of raw meat assaulted my nostrils once the container was open; I turned my lip up at the smell making her laugh.

“What’s wrong?” She asked as she stuck a fork in a piece of meat and started to bring it towards me.

“I am not eating that!” I said turning my face away.

“Why not?” She asked I could hear the amusement in her voice.

“That’s disgusting. Why would I eat raw meat?” I said still refusing to look in her direction afraid she might try to shove it in my mouth.

“It will make you heal faster. Have you never eaten raw meat before?” She asked. She sounded so surprised with her question that I had to look over at her.

“No. I have never heard of that before.” I said. My mouth started watering as my wolf thought about eating the meat for the first time.

“It’s not bad at all, I actually like the taste.” She said as she popped the piece of meat in her mouth and started chewing.

I’m sure a repulsive washed over my face as I watched her chew the raw meat and swallow. She let out a small laugh when she saw me watching her.

“Just try it.” She said holding up a piece of meat by my face.

I reluctantly leaned my head over and took the piece off the fork. It was a weird feeling in my mouth; it was mushy yet chewy at the same time.

It really wasn’t much different than ordering a rare steak and the seasoning that was on it was to die for. I soon found myself munching away on the raw meat as Chloe and I got to know each other.

I was glad that we stayed on the topics of things like our favorite music and foods rather than about the reason I was here.

I convinced the nurse to disconnect the pain meds when she came in; I was ready to be able to move my limbs again.

I knew that I had a broken arm, a broken leg, some broken ribs, and deep claw marks and bite marks everywhere.

I would rather suffer through some pain and be able to move then to be stuck like a brick any longer.

When the feeling came back to my arms I reached up to feel my face; I remembered that the first wolf that attacked me had sliced me pretty good.

All I felt was a thick bandage going from next to my ear to my chin.

“Do I even want to know what I look like right now?” I mumbled grumpily at Chloe while I examined the rest of my body.

“No you don’t.” She said as she continued to file her nails.

I sighed and relaxed back in bed; it didn’t really matter what I looked like now I would look completely different in a few days, perks of being a werewolf.

I looked over at Chloe when she started laughing for no apparent reason.

“What?” I asked confused.

“I just think that it is so funny that three guys got their asses kicked by one girl.

“The whole pack is talking about it; well mostly just about Tristan.” She said as a smile spread across her face; it appeared she was happy that Tristan got hurt.

“I was in survival mode.” I lied; well I kind of was, but I still could have beaten their asses even if I wasn’t.

They weren’t that good of fighters; I could have taken them down quicker if I wouldn’t have been so tired.

“I don’t care what mode you were in, that was bad ass!” She said reaching to give me a high five but pulling her hand back when she remembered that I wasn’t really in good enough shape for a high five yet.

“Thanks.” I said as we both started to laugh.

Dane

I was in the middle of a patrol when a scout picked up on the scent of a female rogue in our territory. I took off full speed in the direction of the location of the scent.

We hadn’t had a rogue travel on our lands for over six months; I was curious to see what this one’s reason was, if they even got a chance to explain.

I caught up to the scout and we started following the scent; we were joined by about ten other wolves as we tracked it.

I could smell it getting stronger as we got closer and soon we could see a body of white wolf lying in a small clearing.

She was lying on her side breathing heavily; she looked completely exhausted as our group of wolves surrounded her body.

“This one’s mine!” Tristan growled through mind link as he started advancing toward the female rogue.

“Stop!” I shouted back at him; his wolf growled at me not pleased with my command, my wolf growled back not pleased with his disrespect.

“Look at her; do you really think she is a threat?” I said whipping my head toward the white wolf.

“She’s a rogue and is trespassing; I don’t care if she is a threat or not.” Tristan snarled back at me.

“We will take her back and see what Klaus wants to do.” I declared.

“Fuck that!” Tristan said and before I could stop him he was already sinking his teeth into the wolves shoulder.

The white wolf let out a howl of pain and to my surprise managed to shake Tristan’s body off of hers as she got to her feet.

Tristan got back up and I could sense the fun he was about to have with the girl; the side of his lips even pulled up in a smile before he went in for another attack.

The female was quick as she slid to the side avoiding Tristan’s teeth; her own teeth catching him in the back leg.

“That bitch!” Trevor, Tristan’s twin brother barked as he took a step forward ready to attack.

“No! This is your brothers’ fight you will not intervene.” I yelled back at him; he stopped and backed back up accepting my command.

I looked back to see Tristan taking a swing at the female; his claws ripped into her face sending blood and white fur flying into the air.

She turned back around to face him as they both stood on their back legs challenging each other.

The female managed to get a hold of Tristan’s arm; I heard the bone crack as she made one final twist of her head and let him go; he fell to the ground growling fiercely at her.

While Tristan tried to regain his footing Trevor slipped out from beside me and slammed into her body causing them to roll together across the clearing until her back hit a tree.

She pushed Trevor off of her as she whined in pain; Trevor regained his footing and charged at her again, she managed to slide out of the way just before he reached her.

Before Trevor even had time to change directions she had him by the neck and flung his body into the nearby trees.

His body collided hard with a tree breaking it in half and causing it to fall to the ground. She looked back at Tristan’s wolf that was still on the ground in pain.

Without warning Jayden came in from behind her grabbing her back leg and biting down hard until the bone cracked.

She squirmed and trashed at him trying to get out of his grip; his claws dug deep into her back as she managed to get away leaving long gash marks in her skin; her white coat was almost all stained red from her blood.

She had only been out of Jayden’s grip for seconds before he caught her by her arm and jerked his head to fling her body into the forest; breaking her arm in the process.

Her fragile, worn, and beaten body landed hard against a tree knocking her unconscious.

I shifted to human form and informed the other men to carry her, Tristan, and Trevor back to the infirmary.

I called Klaus who wasn’t due back for another two hours and told him to meet me at the infirmary when he got back.

I was surprised that Klaus agreed to keep her alive, judging by his reaction there had to be something that I was missing about this girl that Klaus was able to pick up on right away.

I raked my brain trying to come up with an answer as I made my way back to the pack house to find Chloe.

I couldn’t come up with anything that stood out about the girl other than the fact that she was a great fighter.

I would have to see if I could get more information about her out of Klaus later; right now I had a bitchy werewolf to deal with.

“Klaus has a job for you.” I said to Chloe when I found her with her feet perched on the coffee table painting her toenails in the living room of the pack house.

“What kind of job?” She asked in a bitchy tone, not bothering to even look up at me as she made another swipe with the bright red polish across her toenail.

“Watching the rogue we found today.” I said cheerfully; knowing that she wouldn’t be happy with the job.

“Excuse me?” She said finally looking up at me with a look of distaste.

“She’s in the infirmary; you should get there before she wakes up.” I said standing from the couch; I was sure she was going to get really bitchy in a few seconds and I wanted a quick escape route.

“I am not babysitting!” She said screwing the cap back on her nail polish.

“Alpha orders.” I said over my shoulder heading for the door; it was about to happen, she was about to explode.

“Where the fuck do you think you’re going? We’re not done here Dane!” She bellowed out; damn I was hoping to get out of here before this happened.

“What else do you want me to say Chloe? If you have a problem with it talk to Klaus.” I said hoping that would end the argument.

It was the truth: there was nothing I could do to change his orders; she had to talk to him if she wanted out of this.

“Fine I will go baby sit the fucking rogue. Get out of my way asshole!” She said as she trudged past me out the door.

I breathed a sigh of relieve once she was gone; I was prepared for a much bigger argument that that.
