“Em-Emmett…” I called out his name in a state of shock. My head was spinning, yet I managed to compose myself for the sake of Emmett.
“Emmett!” I cried as I ran to him, successfully dodging Zachary.
“Emmett!” I held his face in my hands. His eyes were closed, and I looked down to see blood oozing out of his abdomen.
“Emmett! Open your eyes. Please!” I begged and cried as he lay there, unconscious.
“Juliette!” I heard someone calling me. I turned to find Jace screaming for me as he was held by a man.
“J-Jace! Look what happened to Emmett. He’s not opening his eyes!” I cried.
“Juliette!” Kiara cried, looking at me.
“Kiara! Look what just happened!” I cried, holding Emmett’s face.
Zachary cut me off, shouting, “Enough!” Getting a hold of my arm, he pulled me up. I struggled against him to let myself free.
“Let me go!” I cried.
“You are coming with me,” he spoke, deadpanned, before dragging me with him.
“Juliette!” I heard people crying out my name.
“Leave her!” Kiara screamed.
“Leave me!” I cried even more as he ignored my pleadings and dragged me toward the exit.
“Where are you taking me? Let me go!” I cried as I continued my struggle to free myself from him.
“Juliette!” I heard my father screaming for me.
I looked back at them to see them crying for me. My eyes fell on the unconscious figure on the floor.
“Emmett…” I whispered, feeling helpless.
I was dragged out of the church, and immediately, a limousine pulled before us.
Zachary nodded at his men surrounding us, holding their guns to maintain security for him.
Zachary pulled me toward the limo, and I further struggled against him.
“Leave me! Leave me!” I screamed. I was finally able to yank my hand away from his hold.
I immediately turned around to run back to Emmett. However, Zachary took hold of my hand and made me turn back to him.
Making use of all my force, I slapped him hard with my other hand.
The magnitude of the slap caused his eyes to widen with shock.
“You bastard! Who do you think you are?” I screamed at him.
Suddenly, his face reddened with anger, and he glared at me.
“You will soon know who I am.” He hissed and pulled me toward him, making me gasp.
“And as for that slap,”—he traced my face using his gun—“I will just let it slip, as it was too much for you for a day, but”—he stopped on my lips—“the next time, I will kill you.”
I gulped a lump in my throat but stood my position. I glared back at him, which made him smirk.
“Feisty, huh?” he whispered seductively.
“Now, be a good girl if you want your family to get out of that church alive.” He pulled me closer as he folded my hand at the small of my back.
“W-What do you mean?” I whispered. My heart thumped in my chest.
“My men are still inside that church. One wrong move from you, and your family are dead,” he spoke emotionlessly, like killing people meant nothing to him.
“You wouldn’t…” I stammered, feeling anxiety slowly growing inside me. I felt suffocated.
“Try me,” he whispered.
“Why are you doing this?” I cried, unable to stop my tears any longer. I felt helpless, not knowing what to do.
He stared down at me but never answered my question. Taking a hold of my hand, he turned around and dragged me with him. I stayed silent because of his threat and cried silently.
He followed me inside the limo, closing the door. I heard my name being called as the door closed.
I looked out of the window to see Dad running out of the church with Jace, with Mom following them.
“Juliette!” I saw them mouthing my name as they fought the men.
The limo began to move, taking us on an unknown journey.
“Dad, Mom,” I whispered as I couldn’t see them anymore, and slumped back on my seat.
I sobbed, feeling helpless. I glanced to my left, where Zachary sat, noticing me with a neutral expression.
The only thing I felt for him was hatred. I hated him so much. He had killed the love of my life. The thought of never being able to see Emmett again broke my heart.
“I hate you,” I whispered, but I knew he had heard me as he turned his head away from my direction and stared out of the window.
“I just hate you,” I whispered again, but this time to myself as I silently leaned my head against the window and let tears flow down my face.
I don’t know for how long I kept crying, but soon, I felt dizzy and tired. Before long, I had slipped into darkness.
I woke up feeling suffocated and found myself on a bed. I was in a dimly lit, small room, adorned with expensive and classy furniture.
However, what caught my attention was the sound of an engine.
“Oh no! Am I in a plane?” I whispered as my eyes fell on a small, circular window that showed clouds.
I made my way toward the door, which led to an attached bathroom. When I looked at myself in the mirror, I found myself a mess. My makeup was all smudged.
Then I remembered the kiss I had shared with the man who had killed my love. I shuddered and felt disgusted.
My eyes fell on a bar of soap, and I used it to dissolve the makeup on my face. I then brushed my hair and got rid of the clips. However, what made me nauseous was the blood on my dress.
It was Emmett’s blood.
My eyes teared up, as I thought about him and my parents.
“Emmett!” I cried, realizing that I had lost him. He was no more. I had lost him before my eyes, and I couldn’t do anything to save him.
This was all because of Zachary.
Why did he kill him?
Why did he marry me?
I had never met Zachary before. I did not know him in any way. So why did he kill Emmett and marry me?
I remember that in the church, Zachary had said, “Now you will feel how I felt when you took the most precious thing away from me, you mutt.”
Emmett took his precious thing?
No, he’s lying. I know Emmett. He can never do this to anyone.
“But whatever it is, it doesn’t mean that he could just kill a person and marry someone forcefully against her will,” I spoke to myself.
“You asked for it, Zachary, and I will make sure to make your life a living hell from now,” I swore to myself.
“I don't care what precious thing you lost, but you took the most precious thing away from me. And I will make sure to take revenge for it,” I swore, my words filled with venom.
Then, I heard the door opening and closing. I assumed it to be Zachary. He must have come to check in on me.
I quickly composed myself and wiped away my tears. Making my way out of the bathroom, I found him standing near the bed with a hard expression on his face.
“Oh, you’re back,” I said sweetly.
He furrowed his eyebrows in response. “Wha—”
I cut him off. “I was waiting for you,” I spoke and approached the door, which was slightly ajar. I closed it and heard the doorknob click.
“What are you doing?” He asked as I turned around and made my way toward him. As I walked, I began to unzip the zipper at the back of my dress.
“Honey, did you forget? It’s our wedding night, after all,” I said and smirked when I saw his eyes widening with shock.
“Have you lost it?” he spoke, deadpan.
“What? Me? Oh no.” I approached him, pushing him onto the bed.
“What the hell!” he screamed as he tried to get up.
I climbed on him and slammed my hands on either side of his head, stopping him from getting up.
He held my waist and tried to push me, but I refused to move and held my ground.
“Did you forget what I told you about your parents?” he hissed.
“Oh, I didn’t forget. And what am I doing? I am just trying to coax my husband. After all, you are my husband now, and come on, it’s our wedding night,” I spoke seductively.
I trailed my finger on his face and mirrored his actions from the time he trailed his gun on my face.
He was handsome, though. He had beautiful, deep eyes; a chiseled jawline; and a sharp nose.
However, the hatred I felt for him had blinded me to all his features. I would have swooned for him had I met him any other way.
It was a shame that God had made a guy like that so heartless.
“Listen, just get off of me,” he spoke with a calm voice.
I smirked at him and began to unbutton his shirt.
“No,” I whispered seductively.
I leaned toward his face, making him freeze. As soon as I was near him, he broke out of his thoughts.
Holding my torso, he succeeded in pushing me away from him. I fell to his side, as he got up and strode out of the room, not even bothering to look behind at me.
I heard him muttering, “Idiot!”
I laughed at him as I folded my arms behind my head and smiled victoriously.
“Score one for Juliette,” I spoke to myself.
“It’s just the start. Just wait and watch.” I smirked.
