When the Night Falls

1: Chapter 1

Porn: Television programs, magazines, books, etc. that are regarded as emphasizing the sensuous or sensational aspects of a nonsexual subject and stimulating a compulsive interest in their audience.

Glancing out of my room, I looked around to see if the devil was still in here or if he’d left the place. Not hearing his footsteps or anything else, I concluded that the coast was clear.

I straightened my back, standing upright, and I padded toward my kitchen to have my milk.

I stopped, closing my eyes for a second before turning around to see the devil. Giving him a tight smile, I plopped down on the beanbag chair, knowing clearly he wasn’t going to leave anytime soon.

“Have a seat; you are behaving like a guest.” He sat on the sofa facing me.

“When you are going to me pay me?”

“Alex, you already know about my tight situation. I lost my job. I don’t have a penny in my bank account,” I said with a frown on my face.

Never in my life had I imagined I would be seeing days like this.

I’d worked as a nutrition cook for great pay, but the asshole who had been my head manager had threatened to fire me if I didn’t sleep with him. I flinched, remembering him and his innocent wife.

Before he could fire me out of cruelty, I resigned, which had inflamed his male ego. He’d made sure that I didn’t get another job.

“I already waited for three months. I won’t wait for another three months when it comes to money. I don’t care if you have a job or not.”

“I will give you a month’s time. The end of next month is your deadline. If you don’t pay the money, I will be taking your apartment as payment for the money you borrowed.”

I didn’t even care when he left my apartment. I groaned as I looked at the bills I needed to pay. I didn’t have money to pay them all, which was very frustrating.

The only thing that was left was crying.

The fridge was empty and in great need of filling. I was addicted to those instant noodles, as they were the only thing that I was able to afford. Why hadn’t I saved money all those months?

Because you were so interested in buying all those clothes and that jewelry.

My phone started ringing somewhere around. I searched for it, and I picked it up before it stopped ringing.

“Hello. Jasmine Gibson speaking.”

“Hello, Ms. Gibson. I’m Iris. The reason I contacted you, miss, is because we have a job, which you may need,” the lady on the other end said.

I pulled the phone away from my ear and checked the caller ID. It wasn’t a spam call.

“Okay. What job is it?” I asked her. I didn’t remember applying for new job positions.

“Ms. Gibson, if you are free, can we meet in person? I will explain the details in person.”

“Sure, send me the location.” As soon as I ended the call, I received a message from the mysterious lady. If I had been in a stable position, I would’ve ended the call and would never have gone there.

But I was in a desperate financial situation.

I washed my face and changed into a white button-down shirt that I tucked into my denim jeans. I brushed my auburn hair into a high ponytail.

After applying nude lipstick and putting on my yellow sandals, I walked out of my apartment. I liked fashion and clothes that kind of attracted attention.

The place wasn’t that far from where I lived. I had enough fuel in my car for me to get there and back.

When I reached the place, I messaged the lady and took a seat and gazed around, as that was the only thing left to do.

Soon, I watched a slender lady dressed in classy clothes walking toward where I was sitting. I was impressed by the way she was dressed. She looked sophisticated compared to my casualness.

I stood up as she stretched out her hand, which I shook.

“I’m Iris. I’m glad that you came,” she said, glancing over my clothes. She nodded her head in approval, I guessed.

“I had to come, since I’m in need of a job.” She laughed softly at that.

“I know everything about you, Ms. Gibson. The reason I chose you for this job is because of your previous work.” She sat and crossed her legs, sitting up straight as she spoke to me.

Something about this lady intrigued me.

“First of all, what job is this?”

“Childcare.” I looked at her as if she’d lost her mind.

“Sorry to say this. I think you’ve mistaken me for someone else,” I stated, getting ready to leave. She smiled at me softly, which was kind of sinister.

“You were a nutritionist cook. You left the job because of your manager. Twenty-four years old, not good at relationships, as all your boyfriends left because of your clumsiness.

“Disowned by the family because you didn’t marry the guy they chose for you. There are bills to pay, and you have a negative bank balance.”

My mouth dropped open, and anger flared in me. How dared she investigate my personal matters?

“Look Ms. Iris, I may not have a job right now, and there may be bills to pay. I will get the job I need.

“It is illegal to stalk someone. I am not here to babysit someone,” I replied, standing up.

“One million dollars if you say yes.” My mouth dropped open again, and I looked at the lady.

“What? Are you kidding me? One million dollars for babysitting? Have you lost your mind, or are you trying to make a fool out of me? Is this a prank?”

I looked at the woman in bewilderment. I looked around to see if there were any cameras filming the whole thing.

These YouTube kids tended to go to great lengths to prank people. I’d seen a few prank videos on YouTube.

“I’m perfectly normal, Ms. Gibson. I’m not trying to make a fool of you. The babysitting, as you called it, includes taking care of the baby’s diet and a few other things.”

“If you are ready for the job, then I will tell you about other things.”

I thought about it. I’d never seen a million dollars in my whole life. I wouldn’t have to work anymore if I got that money. I could easily start my own business.

“Okay,” I agreed, and she pulled out a file from her bag and placed it in front of me.

“This is the contract, which states that you will take care of the baby from tomorrow onward. You have to be there for the kid for one year.

“You need to move to the place where the baby is. You should cut all ties and go there without anyone knowing where you are. Your phone is not allowed. You will be provided with a new one.”

“But can’t I stay in my own place? I can drive there every day.”

“No, Ms. Gibson. It’s a confidential matter, and we don’t want you to travel.” I went through the file and read the conditions.

“Okay. Where do I need to sign?” I signed the papers before standing up.

“Our driver will be at your place tomorrow morning. You will be escorted by them. Pack everything you need.”

I bade my goodbyes before driving to my home, as I needed to pack my clothes.

I didn’t have anybody close from whom I needed to cut ties. I had had a few friends back at work, but not anymore. I’d dated like four boys, but those relationships had only lasted for weeks.

Half the girls my age were getting married, and here I couldn’t even have a boyfriend of my own. I had never had sexual intercourse.

To persuade myself, I watched porn videos when I was in the mood. I couldn’t even masturbate, as I felt too shy to do that, which sucked.

The lame kisses that I’d had had been nothing compared to the kisses I’d read about in novels. I was a huge sucker for those erotic and BDSM novels.

I was going through the clothes and other belongings when my phone started ringing. I stopped what I was doing, started searching for the phone in the mess of clothes.

I found my phone underneath my shirts. Before I could answer the call, the call ended. I looked at the caller id to see Iris name.

I called her back, stretched my legs as I waited for her to pick the call. “Hello, Ms Gibson?”

“Hey, Iris.”

“I hope I’m not disturbing you, Ms Gibson but I have forgotten to tell you a few other things. I might inform you now if you are free,” Iris said.

“No… No… I was just packing my bags. I’m free to speak.”

“Good, the driver will be picking you up by nine am in the morning. Please make sure that you are ready by the time. Get your important things and documents as you won’t be able to come back to your apartment.”

I roll my lips into my mouth as I listen to Iris. ‘I won’t be able to visit my place? Not even once?’

“Hmm, Iris. I won’t be able to visit my apartment if I want to? I mean there might be some days where I want to make a visit,” I said.

“I understand Ms Gibson but I apologise. We have signed the contract and you won’t be able to visit your place for some confidential reasons. I hope you understand and get your important belongings with you.”

“Hmm okay, Iris.”

I thought she was going to end the call as the conversation is done. “Oh, and Ms Gibson please don’t carry anything else other than your clothes and important documents and belongings. Everything you need will be provided here, you don’t have to worry about anything.”

My brows frowned in confusion as I ended the call. I thought I would be having my own space where I need to set up everything if I’m going to live there for a year.

I was going to pack everything along with my clothes as I would be needing them in setting up my space in the mysterious location. Now I just need to pack my clothes, I sighed looking at the clothes that are laying on floor.

“Let’s get this done before we go to bed,” I tell myself picking up the cloth that is laying beside me.
