1: Chapter One

Alexia

As a younger girl, I always imagined that I would grow up to be beautiful, kind, and the best Luna to ever grace the Blood Moon pack. I would fight injustice, lead my people, and be adored by my mate.

Throughout my younger years, I studied hard and became knowledgeable in the laws as well as the different customs of the various packs in our kingdom.

Most would say I was a nerd or antisocial, but I truly believed that I was working hard for the future of my pack.

I not only worked hard to be Luna but also to be pure for my mate. Mates are the greatest blessing the Moon Goddess has given us. A soulmate for you and you alone to love.

My small five-year-old heart fell in love with that story when my mother told it to me.

So me being the girl that I was, I promised on my title of Alpha’s daughter to stay pure for my mate, and to everyone’s surprise, I did just that.

But all that happiness of success soon turned to bitter ashes.

The year I turned fifteen the Alpha King proclaimed that all packs were to be passed on to a male heir. If the current alpha had no such heir then the beta male heir would take the position.

All of this came about due to the rise in rejections of true mates to gain titles. Many female heirs would hold competitions to get the strongest male to be their “chosen” mate.

The term itself made me shudder in disbelief. How could anyone turn their back on their true mate?

The problems concerning mates only got worse when many began to sleep with people who were not their mate.

Being pure was becoming more and more a thing of the past, something grandmothers told children to keep them out of trouble.

Sadly most but not all did not listen and so we ended up with a law that stripped me and many others of the title we worked so hard for.

“Alexia, I need you to come down for your dress fitting!” my mother Angela yelled from the bottom of the stairs. This was something I never wanted to do, get all dressed up to go meet the man who stripped me of the dream I worked so hard for.

“I’ll be down in a minute.” Another reason I didn’t want to go down was that I knew Victoria would be there. As the beta’s daughter, she would be going as well.

My story with Victoria is long and complicated. Let’s just cut to the chase and say she hates me, bullies me, and makes what should be a great life almost unbearably awful.

I have never been given a reason why or even an inkling as to what I did, but needless to say there must be something to make her like this. Her brother Mason is the only friend I have.

Up until this new law he was to be my beta, but now he will become alpha in my place.

My parents hope that he will be my mate so that I can still be Luna but we will not know that until tomorrow on my eighteenth birthday.

Blue moon is situated at the base of the mountains with a beautiful river running through the pack lands. Many say that we by far have the most beautiful pack lands there are.

My father Aaron the current alpha is beyond proud of his lands but his true pride is the people of the pack. Other than Victoria (which no one knows about) there are no issues.

Everyone gets along and works together to make sure we are strong and protected from the dangers of the world. Overall one would say I have it all, and I guess it’s true that it does seem that way.

Things are not always as they seem and more secrets are here than most will ever know.

“I’m here mom so you can relax.” I giggle at her frazzled nerves trying to make sure everything is perfect for my big day. Just as I begin to enjoy myself Victoria gives me a look that sends shivers down my spine. I know there will be hell to pay if she doesn’t get her way.

“Victoria has already picked her dress so all that is left is for you to pick yours.” My mother beams at me as she says this. Not knowing that I will pay a very hard price for this attention that I am getting from her.

“I’m sure she will be the most beautiful woman in the room tomorrow. I think I will go with the baby blue. I love the simple design.” I inwardly pray this will settle Victoria down so that she won’t do something painful to me later.

“Oh no, I’m sure you will shine much brighter than anyone. But you’re right the simpler the better for you.” I see the smirk on her face that my mother fails to notice since she has her back turned from Victoria.

She turns back to the mirror to admire herself some more in her tight red dress with a slit up the side.

Victoria has made it her mission in life to not only torment me but to fool the rest of the world in the process. Goddess helps me she has been successful in it every step of the way.

After making a few changes everything is set for tomorrow. Since the Royal Pack is a long drive we have despised to leave early in the morning and get ready at our hotel.

Victoria is leaving now to stay the night at the palace with her friend. This has become a regular thing for her, and I am not complaining one bit if it keeps me safe from her wrath.

I make my way to my bed to get some much-needed rest and to think back on the day. Excitement is causing my stomach to do black flips at the thought that I will finally meet my mate.

My wolf has been restless for the last few months and she won’t tell me why. Rae is my everything and to know she’s been upset over something has me worried.

She would tell me if it was something serious right?
