Stealing His Mate

Chapter 2: Skylar

Sebastian

I stared at Alpha James, awaiting his answer. Surprisingly, it was his whoring daughter that spoke.

“Skylar went to bed a few hours ago.”

Alpha James glanced at his daughter, then back at me.

“Perhaps you could come and see her tomorrow,” he suggested.

I glared at him.

“Wake her. Present her to me now, or I will make true on my threat.”

He nodded and swallowed nervously, before whispering in his daughter’s ear.

“Go fetch her, Emmeline…quickly.”

I wasn’t sure why he whispered. I could hear what he said as clear as day.

He didn’t, however, hear what Kyrian said as he mind-linked me.

Are you sure you want to do this, Bastian?

I didn’t reply, I just cast him a withering look.

There was something about the girl when I saw her in the window. I knew she wasn’t my fated mate, but I felt I was somehow drawn to her.

I drummed my fingers on the table, the rings I wore making the sound vibrate through the room.

Five minutes of awkward silence followed as we waited.

Then the door opened where the other daughter had originally appeared from.

Both women walked through the door. It was apparent how different they were. The older daughter, Emmeline, was tall and curvy. She had a hardness about her expression, which I didn’t like.

Skylar was the exact opposite. Her features were soft, and her blond hair framed her petite face. She was smaller, not just in height but in stature.

Her sister had obviously dragged her from her bed. All she wore was a thin white nightdress, which ended just above her knees. She stood there in bare feet, curling her toes nervously on the floor.

When she looked up and saw me, she let out a tiny gasp. Her face flushed as she glanced down at the floor.

Her sister stepped away from her and rejoined her father and the beta, leaving her standing there like a little lost soul.

Alpha James cleared his throat.

“Skylar, this is Alpha Sebastian. He is…”

I raised my hand to silence him.

I stood up and walked toward her slowly. Despite her early gasp, I could smell no fear.

She was tiny. If I hadn’t known better, I would have thought she was still a pup.

I gently took hold of her chin, tilting her head this way and that.

“How old did you say she was, Alpha James?” I asked without taking my gaze from Skylar.

“She was eighteen, just a few weeks ago,” he replied nervously.

I hummed and nodded my head.

“Look at me, Skylar,” I commanded.

I gently pressured her chin, to encourage her to do so.

She looked me in the eye for a second before averting her gaze.

Her eyes were the most beautiful green. She didn’t take after her father at all. I took my hand from her face and frowned.

“Is she your daughter?” I growled, staring at the Alpha.

He nodded. “Yes, but…”

I held my hand up to silence him once again.

I didn’t need to know the family history, just that she had Alpha blood running in her veins. Her mother must have been very beautiful because she certainly didn’t take after her father.

I looked back at Skylar.

She was frowning. Obviously not happy that I questioned her parentage, although her head was still bowed.

“Good, I’ll take her,” I concluded.

She snapped her head up and looked at me, before looking toward her father.

“Daddy?” she questioned.

“Skylar?” I commanded forcefully. “Look at me.”

Her eyes snapped back to me, and she swallowed nervously.

“Kneel. Submit to your Alpha,” I demanded.

She stared at me, a look of horror on her face.

It was the first time she had looked me in the eye, without me asking.

She shook her head and took a step backward.

“N-no. I won’t. You’re not my Alpha.”

She glanced at her father.

“Daddy? What’s going on?”

Alpha James’ face contorted into a grimace. He let out a heavy sigh.

“Sky…You have to go with Alpha Sebastian, you’re to be his mate.”

She glared at her father, then at me.

“No… No, I won’t go. He’s not my mate, not my true mate.”

She bolted for the door, but I saw it coming, and just as she opened it, I slammed it shut.

I grabbed a handful of her soft silken hair and yanked her head back, so she had to look at me.

“You will submit to me, Skylar, now kneel,” I warned.

She narrowed her eyes, but I saw the change in color as they flicked from emerald green to gold and back again.

Her wolf was trying to take control.

“I will not!” she hissed through clenched teeth.

I wasn’t sure if this was her or her wolf. It didn’t really matter. I would not be disobeyed; she would learn that soon enough.

I put my hand around her throat, tight enough for a threat, but not tight enough to stop her airflow.

Then I mind-linked my warriors.

Get in here now!

Within seconds, the doors slammed open and my two warriors appeared.

Alpha James stood up.

“I don’t think that’s necessary!” he protested.

I glared at him.

“Silence! I will decide what is or is not necessary,” I warned.

I shifted my gaze to one of the warriors.

“Aaron, bind her wrists,” I commanded.

I watched as he pulled the rucksack from his back.

He donned a pair of gloves and then pulled out a length of rope.

I felt Skylar begin to struggle, so I tightened my grip. She whimpered but stopped her struggling. Good, she had to learn who was in control.

Aaron started to bind her wrists; as he did, she let out a cry.

“It hurts,” she yelped.

It was no surprise. The rope was impregnated with silver and soaked in Wolfsbane. If her wolf was going to emerge, I would need more control.

I had no intention of getting into a skirmish with an alpha she-wolf. Not if I wanted to make her my mate.

Once Aaron had secured the rope, I looked at her and smirked.

“There are consequences when you disobey your alpha.”

I walked away from her and headed toward the now open doors. I stopped at the threshold and glanced back at Alpha James.

“A pleasure doing business with you, Alpha. One word of warning though, don’t even think about trying to retrieve your daughter.”

He glanced at his distraught daughter then at me.

“Please, Alpha Sebastian, at least let her get dressed.”

I glanced at my soon-to-be mate.

“She lost that privilege when she disobeyed my command.”

Skylar looked at her father with pleading eyes.

“Please Daddy… Don’t do this.”

I watched as he forced a smile.”

“Just...just be a good girl, Skylar. It’ll all work out if you’re a good girl.”

I rolled my eyes.

“Come on, let’s go.”

Aaron yanked on the rope, forcing Skylar to walk forward.

We had a long walk ahead of us, about two hours.

By the time we got back to my territory and pack house, she would be ready to kneel before me and submit.

I mind-linked my brother.

Stay here until we cross into my territory, then make sure the alpha rejects Skylar from his pack.

No wolf wanted to be a rogue, and as soon as she felt the link break, she would only be too happy to be joined to my pack.

I liked that she was strong, but I may need to break her in order to make her my mate.

If that’s what I had to do, so be it.
