Unexpected Joy

Aimee Dierking

Chapter 3

Hannah was in awe seeing the men she fantasized over as a teenager now just feet from her, and thought some looked even better now than they did then.

She walked over, plastered a smile on her face, and started handing out the leather-bound menus to each person and welcoming them.

Chris was filling water glasses as Hannah took drink orders, which included quite a bit of alcohol, making Chris and Hannah exchange a glance and smirk.

Hannah was at the last spot when she noticed that one seat was empty. She was just going to say something when the nice-looking man next to that seat spoke first.

“What is your name again, miss?” he asked.

“Hannah,” she replied with a smile.

“Can I call you Hannah?”

“Of course!”

“Excellent! Please call me Joey. We are waiting for one more person. My brother is on a conference call and should be down in a minute.

“Can you get him a Jack and Coke? Top shelf, please,” he told her with a wink.

She smiled and took the orders to the POS and entered it in, seeing the tab start to rise. She went to the bar with Chris, then took the two trays of drinks in and got them settled.

She had learned that if she let the talking and laughing continue uninterrupted, they drank more and raised the tab.

She and Chris stayed on the sidelines and just watched as the group continued on, replacing drinks as they needed.

She went to the man at the end, Joey, who appeared to be in charge, and asked if they would like to order some appetizers or starters.

She waited as Joey opened the menu and rattled off several items for the group to share and nibble on. She walked away smiling and put the orders in.

The evening continued and the last person still hadn’t arrived. Hannah didn’t know what to think, but kept on enjoying being in the same room with all the banter and joking.

The groups had been together for months on tour and clearly had a close relationship. They had been eating and drinking for an hour when Joey said they should get their dinner orders going.

The men started including her and Chris in on the banter, and they were having a great time and hated to stop it for such a silly thing like work.

Hannah reluctantly started with Joey and took their orders, handing Chris the menus in a pile as they went down the line.

Getting everything down, she went to the POS and was entering the orders when she heard the door open and close and a chorus of greeting to the new person.

Not wanting to break stride, she finished putting in the orders, but before she sent it off, she needed to get the new person’s order.

She hit Pause on the machine and felt a presence behind her that gave her goosebumps. She turned around and ran into the large, hard, warm chest of a very sexy and handsome man.

Falling back some, Hannah felt strong hands grab her to steady her. “I’m so sorry! Are you okay?”

Hearing the voice was intoxicating enough, but taking a deep breath of his scent was another thing.

She looked up and was shell-shocked by how attractive the man was and couldn’t take her eyes off him.

He was tall, with very broad shoulders, bright green eyes that held a hint of mischief in them, a great smile that made her want to drop her panties, and dark brown, almost black hair that made her fingers itch to touch it.

Somehow, she pulled herself out of the fog and pulled her eyes away from his face. “I’m fine. I’m so sorry that I ran into you!”

“It was entirely my fault for sneaking up on you and for being so incredibly late. A beautiful woman like you shouldn’t have to wait on any man,” he flattered her.

Hannah blushed at his words and fought to not lower her eyes in shyness. “Thank you… Would you care to place your dinner order?”

He smiled at her again and she swallowed to make sure she didn’t say something to embarrass the hell out of herself in front of the hot and sexy man before her.

“Yes, please. I’ll take the lamb chops with Brussels sprout hash and potatoes au gratin.”

She managed to remember the order and turned to enter it when she heard, “You really are incredibly beautiful.”

She turned back to him and said, “You are really very kind. Thank you,” and turned back to take a calming breath and prayed that he went back to his seat.

She could sense him behind her and didn’t know what to do as she punched the screen and sent the order off.

“Can I have your number?”

She stiffened and turned back to face him with her mouth slightly open in amazement. “Are you serious?”

“Oh hell yes! You are stunning!”

Before she could answer him, they heard, “Jack! I need you over here! Stop flirting with Hannah!”

He winked at her and turned back to the table and joined the conversation. Hannah was relieved and went back to the bar to get a fresh drink for the hot man at the table.

She placed it in front of him and he winked at her again, making her blush once more. The group continued to talk about business and the tour as she got another round of drinks for the tables.

She had just served the drinks when she got the beep that the first course was starting to be ready.

She and Chris went out and brought back salads and gourmet breads. They were nearly invisible in their movements and were back by the side of the room as the guests ate.

Hannah just watched and enjoyed the scene before her. She was watching her teenage crushes and favorite boy bands talk and eat. It was something she could never have imagined in her wildest dreams.

Plus, the sexy man was there, and when he laughed and smiled she felt her heart rate accelerate, and she felt a rush of heat and wetness pool in her sensible black underwear.

She had to take deep breaths several times to try and get herself under control.
