Colt: The Finale

Locked Up

Scorp

“Get the fuck off me!” I barked, twisting and contorting myself in the guard’s grip.

“Don’t make this harder than it has to be,” he said, dragging me by the back of the cuff of my flannel shirt.

“Go to hell, pig.”

I curled over as a baton whacked into my stomach.

That’s right, motherfucker.

The only way to shut me up is to take the breath from my lungs.

These pigs really think I’ll stop shouting when my daughter is out in god knows where?

I’m coming, Tess. Don’t you worry.

I don’t know how, but I’m getting the fuck out of here.

A familiar voice drifted into my ears from down the hall and sent chills right down my spine.

“Scorp, will you just chill the fuck out?” Colt’s voice instantly fired me up.

He was inside a holding cell with a smug grin on his face that I’d like to wipe off with my fist.

We’re in this shit ‘cause of him, no doubt in my mind.

I would’ve cursed him too if I had any air back in my chest. Unfortunately, that knock to the ribs was enough to wind me.

The guard dragged me into the holding cell and threw me inside with Colt.

Once the guard locked the door and walked away, Colt joked. “Kinda like old times, huh?”

I gritted my teeth and glared at him. “Fuck off.”

“They got a good lick back there on you, Scorp. Relax your stomach, don't curl over like that, and agitate it.”

Once again, Colt Hudson is giving me orders like I work for him.

“You don’t tell me what to do anymore.” I panted, standing straight and heaving through a few big breaths. “I turned in my cut. Remember?”

Colt scoffed and leaned up against the wall. “Yeah, I remember.”

“Hopefully, you didn’t rat us out.” I sneered, glaring at him, angry that he was so calm while we were behind bars.

He should be trying to figure out a way to get us the fuck out of here!

“Rat?” Colt asked, raising a brow. “You mean like you did to me? You put me on death row, Scorp.”

My stomach lit up like an inferno, and not from the wallop I’d taken. I could’ve strangled him right then and there.

Instead, I turned my back on him and ran my hands through my hair.

“That was different,” I said. “That was for Summer.”

“Yeah,” Colt replied, “I get it. You did it for your family.”

His voice wasn’t sarcastic, and he wasn’t trying to rile me up. He actually sounded genuine.

I turned to face him again, my glare cutting into his relaxed eyes.

Something about his face just pissed me off.

“Man, why the fuck are you so calm right now?”

Colt laughed. “‘Cause we’re getting the hell out of here. You, me, Violet, Summer, Tess. We ain’t rotting away, Scorp.”

I stuck my hands through the bars and peeked around to see if anybody was listening. We were clear.

“Listen Scorp, forget the club. Forget the cut. We got a bigger problem.”

Some of the anger left my face, and the fire in my stomach left along with it.

“We need to get our women.” Colt said the words, but I almost couldn’t believe them.

Is Colt Hudson really putting people before his club?

“Get fucked.” I said wearily, shaking my head.

I’d have thrown a punch if I wasn’t saving my energy for wrestling the guards. I’d make a break for it. I’d do anything before they threw the book at me, while I didn’t know where my little girl was.

Colt stepped forward and set a hand on my shoulder. “I’m serious, brother.”

See. Still using club talk. Me? His brother? Get real.

“I’m getting us out of here,” Colt assured me, squeezing my shoulder. “I’m getting back to Summer, and I’m getting your ass back to Violet. But I need your help.”

I scoffed and scratched the side of my mouth. “You got a plan?”

“Yeah, I do. You ain’t gonna like it. But I do.”

Before I could say another word, Colt spoke up. “We’re family. Cut or not. Club or not. I’d die for you. But neither of us is dying with the ladies out there.”

Honestly, my heart skipped a few beats. I forced myself to look him in the eyes ‘cause I didn’t want to so badly. But I didn’t want to fear him, or what he had to say.

I told myself long ago I’d never be afraid of The Devil.

Except, deep down, there’s a part of me that thinks he’s right.

Maybe we are family.

I’ve seen how happy my sister is with him. I know damn well he’d protect her too.

I straightened my back and looked him directly in the eyes.

“Alright,” I said. “I’m listening.”

Summer

Seems like there’s somebody that Munozos wanted to bring down even more than the other cops wanted to bring me and Colt down.

And I think I know exactly who that somebody is.

Rosemary.

The Black Widow.

She’s the leader of this town’s underworld.

A chill entered the holding cell, and I wished for a blanket, a jacket, or anything besides my thin cotton dress. I hugged my arms to my chest, thinking of Colt, praying that we could leave this place and put this all behind us.

That’s when another cop appeared and dragged a woman into the cell. She put up no struggle when he shoved her inside with me.

“Violet,” I muttered.

God, I still didn’t know what to think about her. Scorp loved her, but with a past like hers, who knew what she was capable of?

Even so, it made me feel better to not be alone in the cell.

Violet glanced at me. “Glad you’re okay.”

She smacked a hand to her neck and winced.

I ran to her side. “Yeah, but are you? Did a guard hit you or something?”

Violet waved a hand. “I’ll be okay. I’ve seen the reaper, and he passed me.”

She looked at me and smiled. “He passed all of us. Just as the last tarot card I drew with Tess revealed. The upside down Major Arcana.”

I rolled my eyes. No wonder I could never connect with Violet. I don’t know what she’s saying half of the time.

“Violet, I don’t speak witch. What’s any of that mean?”

Violet’s smile widened. Her reply was icy, yet warm. “Death.

None of Violet’s prophecies had resonated with me before, but this one made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

And right as they did, Violet fell. She collapsed, gasping for air. She grabbed her neck like she was choking.

“Violet! Help! Somebody help! She’s hurt!”

I screamed and hollered as loud as I could.

“Please! Help us!”

I may not have known Violet well, but I knew my brother loved her.

And if that was the case, then she was family.

I held her hand while she convulsed.

“It’s going to be okay,” I promised her.

But the truth was, I didn’t know.
