My Sexy Devil

Mars Mejia

Chapter Three

KARA

The following Monday, I walked into school with everyone’s eyes glued to me. I did my best to avoid everyone’s gaze and acted as if I had no clue that they were staring at me.

Jason and I had two classes together: English and Gym. There was no way out of what I had done, and now I had to deal with it.

I arrived in the room and quickly sat down in my usual seat, which I had decided was best since it was all the way in the front. My backpack landed next to me with a loud thud.

A moment later, something light bounced off the back of my head. My body froze in place. What the fuck was that? I glanced at the floor and noticed the crumpled-up piece of paper by my foot.

This caught my classmates’ attention, and everyone watched in curiosity.

My eyes wandered around the room, meeting everyone’s gaze. I couldn’t let it get to me, not in front of everyone. Rage rushed through me, but I was too stubborn, so I pretended like I wasn’t affected at all.

I continued looking around the room, and of course, Jason Kade was sitting at the back of the classroom with a proud grin etched on his face.

I gritted my teeth and tried not to attack him right then and there. I’ve never been in trouble before, and I wasn’t going to change that all because of some foolish boy.

“Is this because I made Jackson look like a fool?” I taunted.

I knew that calling him by the wrong name would irritate him. It clearly worked because I saw the smirk on his face drop ever so slightly, but it was enough for me to notice.

“Jason,” the now-irritated boy corrected through gritted teeth, proving me right. Jason’s intense blue eyes were narrowed, pinning me to my spot.

I cursed myself for feeling turned on. I hated his guts but wouldn’t mind him in mine.

It was a heated stare-down.

“That’s what I said. Jackson.” My eyes tore away, and I got up to go to the nurse’s. The room remained silent as I swung my hips, walking to the nurse’s to fake a stomachache.

“Wow.” Jess almost spit her water out all over me as she spoke and attempted to drink water at the same time. I told her about what had happened in English class.

When I returned back to the English classroom after the nurse caught on, it was like nothing had happened. I sent him a glare, but he didn’t even acknowledge me at all.

Maybe I had gotten to him.

I tilted my head as I studied the illegible scribbles and opened my locker.

Someone had left a Post-it note of a stick figure with steam coming from their ears on my locker. It looked like an angry anime character.

“With everything that’s happened with Adam, don’t stress it,” Jess whispered, and I let out a sigh.

“I can’t believe he thought we were still together.” My eyes met Jess’s as I reached into my locker to switch textbooks.

My hand stopped when something furry moved next to it. It felt foreign.

I had nothing furry in my locker from what I remembered, but I barely used the old thing, so who knows.

As I began to pull my hand out, I stopped about halfway when the furry thing moved again, confirming that I hadn’t imagined it. My body froze, and my heart was pounding wildly.

My eyes squeezed shut so tightly that I could feel my face twist up. The thing moved along the back of my hand, and I damn near pissed myself.

“Jess, what the fuck is on my hand?” I stood paralyzed with fear as I heard her gasp loudly. That wasn’t a good sign.

“Don’t open your eyes.” Jess’s voice was shaky. “And don’t make any quick movements,” she added nervously.

Part of me wanted to see, but I was terrified. If Jess was scared, I knew I would be too because she’s not a person who scares easily.

Whatever was on the back of my hand began to move again, slowly making its way onto my wrist.

I was shaking so much I swore I could hear my bones rattling. Curiosity got the best of me, and my eyes flashed open.

A loud scream left my mouth when I saw a giant tarantula moving along the back of my wrist. Its furry legs continued to slowly crawl onto my forearm, and I furiously waved my hand in order to get it off of me.

“JESS! KILL IT! OH MY GOD!” I screeched as I watched it crawl inside my locker.

I was so petrified of spiders that I cried every time I saw one.

Laughter erupted from behind me, and I spun around. Jason watched from down the hall, wearing a large grin with two of his asshole friends by his side. My hands tightened into fists, and I was fuming.

I was almost certain that I looked exactly like the Post-it drawing.

“You,” I seethed at him and walked toward Jason with heavy steps. As I approached him, he tried to stop laughing and made a weak attempt at keeping a straight face.

When that failed, he covered his mouth with his hand and pretended to cough in order to stop the laughter he was holding in.

Jason’s bright blue eyes were full of amusement. “I see you’ve met Spike.”

“I don’t get what you’re trying to do”—my hand connected with his shoulder, roughly shoving him in an attempt to seem intimidating—“but I’m starting to get pissed off,” I hissed, and he took a step forward with the large smirk still plastered on his face.

Jason tried to press his entire chest against mine, but I groaned in disbelief and walked away.

I didn’t know how much longer I’d be able to take it until I snapped.

“I’m pretty sure that thing belongs to Mr. Lopez’s science class.” Jess shuddered as we turned the corner and into the next hallway.

Something small hit the back of my head. My body swiveled around in a complete one-eighty, and I prepared myself to choke Jason.

Instead, I found a head peeking out from a classroom. My tense body loosened, and my eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

“Kara, come here,” the framed face whispered in a hushed voice. “Just you, though,” he added quickly. I shook my head and began to turn, ignoring the familiar boy. “I can help you get back at Jason.”

I stopped midturn and looked back at Mario, a guy from my History class.

“If you want my help, come here.” I glanced at Jess, who nodded and walked toward her next class.

“How exactly are you able to help me?” I asked the black-haired boy who opened the door slightly. There were a few students inside working on a science project.

“I have something you’re going to be able to use against him. I’ll leave it on your desk on Friday in our History class. All I need to know is where you sit, and once you have what I’m giving you, it’s important that you bring it to the news crew in room B102,” he thoroughly explained.

I felt like I was about to go on a world-saving mission with the type of orders he was giving me. I quickly told him where I sat, but the question I had been dying to ask was surfacing.

“Why are you helping me?” I narrowed my eyes at him.

A guy who I didn’t talk to at all was deciding to help me? It felt like I was being set up, and I wasn’t going to let anyone else in this school mess with me.

“I’m not doing it for you. Jason and I like to prank each other a lot, so let’s just say I want to get him back. It just happens to work in your favor too. You don’t have to trust me now, but you’ll understand on Friday. See you then.”

Mario gave me a small smile and retreated back into the room.

“You can do this. One more day and we can get away for the weekend.”

Jess gave me an encouraging smile as I walked to my last period with her. She was trying to give me a small pep talk in order to prevent me from having to lash out at anyone out of rage.

Thankfully, today was the calmest of all days. Mainly because it was Friday and everyone just wanted to go home and relax.

Overall, the whole week had been a nightmare and completely exhausting. It had taken quite a toll on me, but I survived.

I spent most of my week avoiding Adam, but it was hard when we had a couple of classes together.

I couldn’t help but smirk when I walked out and saw Jason hanging out in the hallway with a few of his friends.

He returned the smirk and eyed me up and down. I rolled my eyes when he winked at me. It still turned me on, though.

Little did he know about what was going to happen. Too bad I wouldn’t be there to see his reaction. I’m sure it was going to be priceless, but at least I had a shot at getting him back.

Earlier in History class I got the help I needed from Mario. He had given me a picture of Jason from middle school, where he looked completely different.

Jason’s blond hair was shaped into an awkward bowl cut and the frames he wore covered half of his pimpled face, making his eyes appear much larger than normal.

Apparently Jason hated that picture more than anything in the world, and Mario decided that it was fair to share considering that last prank Jason had pulled got Mario grounded for two weeks.

Mario didn’t mention what it was, but either way I went to the school’s newsroom and gave them the picture.

Sixth period came quickly and I sat patiently waiting for the last few minutes of class to roll around. I jumped in surprise when the room’s TV turned on.

Everyone looked up at the screen expecting the school’s news team to show up, but to their surprise it was something else.

I held back my laughter when the embarrassing picture of Jason popped up. Students whispered to each other. I couldn’t help but grin mischievously.

The bell rang, and everyone rushed out of class to gossip about what had just happened. I went to Jess’s locker right away while grinning wildly. I couldn’t wait to tell her all about it.

“Something tells me you were involved with what just happened.” Her eyes widened before she laughed.

I shrugged before giving her a devious smile. “Maybe.”

Jess was about to reply when her eyes diverted to behind me and grew wide. “This is where karma comes back to bite you in the ass.”

I turned around to see an angry Jason storming my way. Jess squeaked in terror. How’d he already know it was me?

I bit my lip to hold back my laughter, ignoring the nervous knot forming in the pit of my stomach.

Jason knocked into some innocent bystanders, and they stumbled back a few steps while glaring at him. They silently cursed at him as he walked past, knowing to keep their mouths shut.

“Where did you get that picture?” Jason growled once he reached me.

I was torn between denying that it was me and just messing with him. Of course, I chose the latter and shrugged, pretending to be too busy for him.

“Was it Mario?” Jason growled with an angry glare. I was going to retaliate with a witty response, but then a more cunning idea arose in my mind.

I slowly put both my hands on his chest and leaned forward so that our faces were only a few inches apart.

“Is Jackson mad because he’s losing?” I whispered.

My idea was clearly working because his breathing increased, and I heard him groan slightly when I traced my fingers down his muscular stomach.

Fuck. He was hot. I took a moment to enjoy the feel of him underneath my fingertips before forcing myself to pull away.

I laughed coldly, which snapped him out of his trance, and spun around to see a confused Jess.

“Let’s go.” I grabbed her wrist and took a step before Jason abruptly stopped me by gripping my hips tightly.

My feet rooted themselves, and my breathing hitched.

Jason pulled me back against his firm chest, and I could feel his warm breath against the left side of my neck. Goosebumps erupted all over my skin, and my eyes fluttered shut while his mouth moved next to my ear.

“Don’t play a game you can’t win,” Jason whispered before his body heat disappeared. I opened my eyes and tried to calm my breathing.

This was far too frustrating for me. Jason may be annoying, but I had to admit that he was extremely attractive. Frustrating, but still very attractive.

“What just happened?” Jess’s brown eyes were wide as they shifted between Jason’s back and my flabbergasted face.

I took a moment to replay the moment in my head and then let out a frustrated sigh. That didn’t go the way I expected, and it backfired on me. I should’ve known better.

“I think I just got myself into some deep shit.”
