Chapter 2

Seth

I can feel everything that Ellie feels through the mate bond. I think I can possibly feel it more than she does. It could be because she is part human. I’m not sure.

Or perhaps it's because I’m not usually an emotional person, except where my little mate is concerned.

I hate that she is hurting so much, but it doesn’t surprise me that she hasn't gotten pregnant yet.

She hasn’t even gone into heat, and that's when she-wolves will usually become pregnant.

Three days of doing nothing but fucking to ease the need will usually result in a pup or two. I think I also know why she hasn’t gone into heat.

We’d mated and marked in human form, but then it all kicked off with Joel and Gabriel. Then her grandfather. Then, of course, Ellie and Zagan, then me and Dante.

After that, everything was so busy, what with the rebuilding of the palace, the mating ceremony, and the coronation.

Our wolves didn’t have a chance to mate and mark each other. That would be why Ellie hasn’t gone into heat yet.

I know she thinks the moon-goddess has cursed her. She doesn’t need to say it out loud. She still blames herself for the deaths of so many people. Sammy. Elijah. Her grandfather.

The only person to blame for any of that was Joel.

I thought once we’d killed him, along with Zagan and Dante, that Ellie could put it all behind her.

But that doesn’t seem to be the case. Once I put a pup in her belly, I hope that she will be able to.

This visit to Gabriel will hopefully lighten her load a little. If anyone can persuade her to forgive herself, it’s him.

He’s not just like a father to her. For all intents and purposes, he ~is~ her father. At least the only one who has ever really cared about her.

In a way, I’m slightly jealous of the bond they have.

I know I shouldn’t be, but even though we are mates and I should provide everything she needs both physically and emotionally, I know that she still misses him like crazy.

Truth is, I miss Clayton. He was like a father to me when my own parents were taken from me, but we don’t have the same connection that Ellie has with Gabriel.

It took some convincing to get Arvid’s approval for our little jaunt through the woods, but when I explained the situation from our wolves’ perspective, he quickly came on board.

I think we’ve been a bit of a nightmare for Arvid. We don’t follow any of the traditions that previous royal wolves did. All the bowing and kneeling have gone out the window.

After all, we were just warriors before Ellie agreed to become queen. We’re still the same people we were before. It’s just that now we have a title.

The fact that we were warriors put Arvid somewhat at ease. We’re both capable fighters, and despite now being king and queen, we both have kept up our training.

I grab Ellie’s hand and lead her toward the edge of the woods, away from anyone who might see us.

I have no issue being naked in front of other wolves, but I do have an issue with other wolves seeing my mate naked, and it has nothing to do with the fact that she is their queen.

She’s mine, first and foremost, and I won’t have other males seeing her naked. She smiles at me as we remove our clothes, and then our bones crack as we shift.

Ellie is just as beautiful in wolf form as she is in human form.

My wolf, Tiberius, agrees. I give him complete control. This is his time, after all.

Tiberius

I gaze at my beautiful mate. Nix is smaller than average, and looking at her, you wouldn't think she is an alpha. Right now, our rank doesn’t matter. It’s just me and my mate.

I rarely voice my thoughts to Seth when we are in human form. We are usually on the same page, so there is no need to say them.

Lately, though, it’s been different. I’ve been like a whining adolescent. All I want to do is mark and mate with Nix. Finally, the day has come, and I intend to make the most of it.

As soon as we shift, I realize that Nix wants to play. Her front end goes down, and her backside is in the air, tail wagging. Then she bounces around in front of me.

She quickly turns and heads off into the woods, but then she stops.

Nix glances over her shoulder at me. Her tail wags, and then she lifts it in the air, presenting herself to me like the feast that she is.

She wants me to chase her, but she also wants to be the young wolf she has never allowed herself to be.

It’s been a while since I’ve run for the pure joy of it. Nix isn’t the only one who will make the most of this freedom. If it’s a chase she wants, it’s a chase she will get.

Nix is small, and what she lacks in speed she makes up for in agility. She whips through the trees, jumping over logs and bushes.

I don’t run at my full speed. If I did, the chase would be over too soon. I’ll let her think she’s winning, at least for a while. Then I’ll pounce, and she’ll be mine for the taking. We chase each other through the woods for a while until I’m done. I’ve waited long enough for this moment. I don’t intend to wait any longer.

I accelerate toward my mate, nipping at her heels. She glances over her shoulder and flashes her teeth in a show of bravado.

Once I’m even with her, I gently bump her shoulder, knocking her slightly off stride.

I lightly nip her shoulder before wrestling her to the ground.

She’s pinned down. My little Alpha wolf. I nibble and lick at her ears before I plunge my canines into the back of her neck.

Enough to draw blood, but not enough to do any real damage. She whimpers a little, but this turns into a growl of pleasure. She now carries my mark.

As soon as I release my jaws, she turns her head to look at me.

She pants a little in expectation. I won’t deny her.

Now is the time for me to fill her with my seed and put a pup in her belly.

It’s what Nix wants, and it’s what Ellie wants, and I will not disappoint them.
