Chapter 3

DARREN

My head is killing me, and I look around to see that I am not in my room. I feel an arm around my body, and I look down to see Emily beside me, wrapped in a sheet.

I know I didn’t sleep with her last night. I move her off me, then realize we both are naked and there are blood stains under me.

I try to think back on last night, and all I remember is her coming to me drunk, making a toast, then walking her to her room because she was drunk.

I don’t remember anything after that, but I can tell I had sex last night. I pick up my clothes and make my way to my room.

I’m glad no one is up yet. I take a quick shower and then try to rack my brain around what happened last night.

I know I was not that drunk. I didn’t have that many drinks. I never get drunk. I wonder what could have happened. I make my way to my bed and fall back asleep, seeing as it’s only three a.m.

I get a mind-link from my mom saying it’s breakfast time and to come down. I put on shorts and a T-shirt, then head down to the dining room.

The omegas are bringing out the food as I walk toward the alpha table. Before I can sit down, Emily comes toward me, smiling.

She whispers, “I had so much fun last night.”

I grab her arm and take her out of the dining room. I may have grabbed her too hard, but at that moment I don’t care.

She hisses, “What the hell, baby?”

I try to control my wolf, who is getting angry right along with me. “I’m not your baby, Emily. What happened last night?”

She smiles, saying, “You took my virginity last night while making love to me.”

My wolf, Goliath, mind-links me, “You stupid idiot.”

I mind-link back, “I don’t remember last night.” I block him out so I can talk to Emily.

“Emily, I’m not sure what happened last night, but it means nothing to me.”

I see the hurt on her face, but I have to be honest with her. “You know I am waiting on my mate, and you should have saved yourself for your mate as well.

“Let’s forget what happened, and don’t discuss this again.”

She looks hurt, and tears run down her face as she says, “But I love you. I saved myself for you. I thought if I gave myself to you, then we would be together.”

I quickly mind-link Liam, because this is his sister, and he may know how to calm her down. I hate to use my alpha voice on her, but she is getting louder with her proclamation of love.

Liam comes out of the dining room. I quickly explain what she says happened and how I have no recollection of it, then he tells me to go because he has her.

He holds her while she breaks down crying, and I kind of feel bad. I know what I said was hurtful, but I always told her that I didn’t want to be with her.

I have to find out what happened last night. I don’t get drunk, and the little drinks I had would not make me drunk and forgetful. My wolf links, “You should go get checked at the pack hospital.”

I make my way to the pack hospital and meet with the head doctor.

“Alpha, how can I help you?” asks Dr. Levi.

I tell him that I can’t remember part of my night, but I know I wasn’t drunk.

He takes me to a room and takes blood. I tell him that this is to stay between him and me only. He nods his head and then says he will let me know the results.

Dr. Levi’s mate is a good witch, so he knows a little bit about magic. He can tell me whether something odd was given to me or not.

I’m no fool, and I know that I wasn’t drunk last night, so I should remember what happened to me.

If I found out that Emily or someone else spiked my drink, then there will be hell to pay. I don’t care if she is the beta’s daughter or Liam’s sister.

I head out of the pack hospital and shift and run toward the woods. Goliath, my wolf, is big. His fur is jet-black, like my hair, and his eyes are a brighter blue than my regular blue eyes.

Goliath stands taller than most alphas, even my dad. I’m proud I was blessed with him.

We head into the woods and try to think about last night. It’s as though when we try to think about how we got to her room, our head hurts.

“Goliath, stop trying to think about it before you give us a headache.”

“I want you to know that if she drugged us, then I will kill her where she stands.”

“I know.”

We continue to run until we reach the edge of the woods and I get a wonderful scent.

It smells like strawberries and vanilla mixed together. I realize I have reached the edge of the human town, and I turn to go back.

“We have to go back. That was mate’s scent.”

“Goliath, if we go back, then we will scare mate off, since we are in wolf form. This is the edge of the human town. If the scent is near here, then she may be a human.”

I pray to the Moon Goddess she is not human though. I need a strong mate, and humans are not strong. Goliath reluctantly agrees, and we turn back to head to the pack house.

I mind-link a kitchen omega to fix me a sandwich, because I know I missed breakfast. I completely lost my appetite after the whole Emily fiasco.

I shift back and get some shorts behind a tree, then head to the kitchen. My sandwich is fixed by the omega Claire, and she sets down some lemonade for me, then leaves the kitchen.

I sit at the island while I eat. My mom comes around the corner,

“What happened to you this morning?”

I tell her I had to blow off some steam and went for a long run. She doesn’t say anything else and then heads off.
